Dr. Seuss Mashup

A former co-worker hosted a baby shower for her best friend a few months ago. The theme for the shower was Dr. Seuss. She gave me all the ideas and books she wanted to incorporate and I mashed them all up into a cake!

The fish are my favorite part. :)

Noah's Ark

Noah's Ark is a popular baby shower theme, but until last week I had yet to make a cake with that theme. Weird! The cake didn't need to feed a lot of people, so I wasn't able to fit tons of animals on the boat. I definitely had to squeeze in two giraffes though!

Baby Safari Adventure

Mike's friend and his lady are having a baby. The baby shower was yesterday and of course I made the cake! The theme was safari and all the future baby momma requested was a monkey hanging from a tree and a giraffe. I put that on top of the cake, "Baby Maddox" around the tiers and a leaf border. And voilĂ , a safari adventure!

Baby Heffalump

My lovely friend Kandy had her baby shower a couple weeks ago. It was Heffalump themed and the colors were purple and turquoise.

I made a Heffalump topper out of fondant and had purple flowers and turquoise butterflies cascading down.

Bake a Cake

My mom, sister and I helped host Mike's cousin's baby shower on Saturday. We were in charge of food, prizes and of course the cake. His cousin calls me Angie Bake a Cake. My mom is Mother Bake a Cake and my sis is Sister Bake a Cake. haha

The theme for her shower was baby animals with purple and green colors. I took the animals from her invitation and made them as fondant toppers. Around the cake I put purple and green polka dots.

Matching cupcakes.

An up-close look at the toppers.

Punk Rock Baby

One of my good friend's sister hit me up to make a cake for a baby shower she was hosting. Her friend was having a boy and wanted a punk rock themed cake. I found a girly one online and just changed the color scheme to blues.

Skulls and argyle!

Purple and Green

I had three baby shower cakes this past weekend and two of them had the same color theme. That made things easy when coloring fondant! haha The first one was for Mike's cousin. She was hosting a baby shower. She wanted something simple with flowers and polka dots. VoilĂ !

A Lil' Pumpkin

I made a deal with one of my co-workers awhile ago: three cakes in exchange for Disneyland tickets. A sweet deal if you ask me! This past weekend, I made the third cake for him. His wife is pregnant and they had a Halloween-themed baby shower.

Black and orange with a pumpkin baby on top:

Nightmare Before Christmas

One of my co-workers LOVES The Nightmare Before Christmas and Halloween. She's pregnant and due soon. Perfect timing to have a baby around your favorite holiday! She must have planned it. haha Her department threw her a Halloween-themed baby shower yesterday and asked me to make some Nightmare Before Christmas cupcakes.

A Little Pea in a Pod

Patti, an old high school friend, had a friend who needed a baby shower cake. The friend knew what she wanted, she just needed the baker. Patti recommended me. Yay! I only keep in contact with her through Facebook, so it was nice that she thought of me.

The theme for the cake was a pea in a pod with boy colors. I LOVE how the topper turned out. It's so cute!

Baby Carriage

A co-worker asked me to make the cake for her baby shower. At first, she wanted it shaped like a baby carriage. Then she showed me cakes she liked with polka dots and stripes. So I decided to combine both ideas! Woo hoo! And since she's having a boy her colors were blue, green and brown.

The Birds and the Leaves

I sit right next to Customer Service at work. First of all, that is one of the toughest jobs and it gets hardly any recognition. I couldn't deal with unhappy customers. I give them a lot of props for all that they do.

Anyways, since I sit right next to that department, they get to see a lot of my cake creations. One of the reps is pregnant, so they asked if I would make cupcakes for the baby shower. They found out from her husband that the baby's room has trees and birds on the walls and the colors are yellow, purple and grey. So I made cupcakes in purple and yellow baking cups with grey frosting. Then I made purple birds and branches with yellow leaves toppers. I think I pretty much covered the baby's room theme. =)

Shabby Chic

This is the year of babies in Mike's (my fiance) family. Three of his cousins are pregnant right now. Woah! And one of them, Karyn, is a fan of my cakes so she wanted me to make one for her baby shower.

She's picky. lol And that's alright! She gave me some suggestions like stripes, flowers and she wanted the letter "R" on top. She also told me a few things she didn't want on the cake. No animals, animal prints, purple and a limited amount of pink. All these requirements actually made it easy to figure out the design. I went for a shabby chic theme with green, yellow, white and some pink. I was able to incorporate everything she suggested. I also added some pearl dust for a little shimmer.

I LOVE this cake. Karyn loved it, too. It was definitely a hit at the baby shower!

Rubber Ducky, You're the One!

I've done a few baby shower cakes and the theme that pops up the most is rubber duckies. If I was having a boy or didn't know the gender yet, I'd go with a jungle theme. Or dinosaurs! Girls can like dinosaurs, right?

Anyways, this rubber ducky cake looks similar to one I've made before, except this time I didn't add a bow to the top. I tried to find a bigger duck for the top, but none of the stores I went to had one. So I just made one out of fondant. It was pretty easy! I guess I'll be making my own ducks from now on.

Fired Up

I haven't been to many baby showers. In fact, I think I've only been to two. I've made a lot of baby shower cakes, though! I had no idea there were so many theme possibilities! I've done butterflies and rubber ducks, which aren't wacky for a shower, but this past weekend I had an order for a firefighter themed cake.

I made the firemen, firetruck and ladder out of fondant. This was only the second time I've made fondant people and I think they came out pretty darn cute! I enjoy the firetruck, too. And polka dots are always fun!
