Alkaline Trio

A former co-worker hit me up on Facebook to order some cupcakes for her fiancé. He loves Alkaline Trio, so it was really easy to come up with a design... the band's logo!

And here are the cupcakes:

The Birds and the Leaves

I sit right next to Customer Service at work. First of all, that is one of the toughest jobs and it gets hardly any recognition. I couldn't deal with unhappy customers. I give them a lot of props for all that they do.

Anyways, since I sit right next to that department, they get to see a lot of my cake creations. One of the reps is pregnant, so they asked if I would make cupcakes for the baby shower. They found out from her husband that the baby's room has trees and birds on the walls and the colors are yellow, purple and grey. So I made cupcakes in purple and yellow baking cups with grey frosting. Then I made purple birds and branches with yellow leaves toppers. I think I pretty much covered the baby's room theme. =)

Designer Cake

I've been away at Comic-Con for the past few days, so I got a break from cakes. I wasn't even home a day before I had to start baking again.

I'm not into designer things at all. Well, I love Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B., but that's because I love her. I guess I'm just not a fancy schmancy lady!

I got an order for a Coach purse cake. I took the purse design I've used before and added the Coach "C." This cake took WAY longer than I expected. Cutting the logos took for-ev-er. It turned out cute though and that's all that matters. =)

Let's Go Bowling!

I LOVE bowling. It's one of my favorite fun things to do. I even have a sparkly, pink ball. That doesn't mean I'm any good. haha I just love bowling!

I was super excited to get this order for a bowling-themed cake. All she requested was a pink bowling ball. Yes! So I browsed the internet for ideas and created this:

I LOVE this cake! And the best part was it all came together so easily. I didn't fight with the fondant at all. Even though the cake was chocolate, it didn't get all crumbly. And it took less time to finish than I thought. Perfection to the max!

X-Men Day

X-Men #1 is out today, so it's time to party X-Men style! What better way to celebrate than with X-Men-themed cupcakes!

X-Men logo, Phoenix's logo, Cyclops, Deadpool, Wolverine and Magneto's helmet.

Happy X-Men Day!

Ska in the Park

A few months ago I found out about Ska in the Park. It's pretty much a one-day Warped Tour of just ska. Most. Awesome. Idea. Ever. And the show was the day before my birthday. Best. Birthday. Celebration. Ever. So I was totally stoked. Shortly after I found out about the show, the guy who was putting it on emailed me about making the cake for it. In exchange, I would get an all-access pass. YES!!

So this is the cake I've been looking forward to the most. It was basically my ticket into the show!

This is the flyer for the show:

And here's my cake:

The show was awesome. People loved the cake. I can't wait to do it again next year!

The Purr-fect Cupcake

The lovely @clearasmud and I have the same birthday! Woo hoo! Last year I was told several times by other co-workers that I was not allowed to make her a cake because we have the same birthday. I don't see what that has to do with anything! And this year she told me not to make her a cake. First of all, don't tell me what to do. If I want to make a cake for your birthday, I'm GOING to. And that's exactly what I did.

A giant cupcake with a leopard print bottom, red frosting and a cherry on top!

Championship Cupcakes

The only sports I follow are the World Cup and the Olympics. I like the Super Bowl because I get to make snacks for parties. haha And hockey is fun to watch in person. Basketball is definitely not my thing , but because I live in Southern California, the Lakers are in my face constantly.

As everyone knows they won the championship recently, so a co-worker requested some Lakers-themed cupcakes on the day of the parade.

Purple and gold batter:

Freshly baked:

The logos cover it up, but I also put purple and yellow sprinkles on the frosting.

The Legend of Cakes

I love video game inspired cakes! The few I've made were just for fun. So when my friend Kandy ordered a Triforce cake for her brother, I was super stoked.

The base of the cake is green because that's Link's color. Then I just cut out the Triforce logo with fondant and placed it on top. Simple, yet awesome.

Close the Books

My 10-year high school reunion is this year. I don't plan on going though. I had an awesome time in high school, but I'm still friends and keep in touch with the people I knew back then. So I don't really feel like paying money to see those other people I don't care about.

Anyways, one of my sister's old classmates emailed me about making a cake for her sister's high school graduation. I thought it was kind of weird/cool that I got to make a cake for someone who was graduating from the same high school as me, 10 years after I did. She ordered a pile of books with a graduation cap on top. This is the third time I've made this type of cake so it was easy squeezy.

To Infinity... and Beyond!

My sister's birthday was a few weeks ago. Since Toy Story 3 came out the day after her birthday and she loves the previous two films, I decided that would be the theme for her birthday. I decorated her desk at work in a Toy Story theme and made some matching cupcakes.

Woody was definitely the hardest to make. Rex and the aliens are my favorite! If I had seen Toy Story 3 before making the cupcakes, I would've definitely made a few of the cupcakes with some of the new characters. I love Mr. Pricklepants and Buttercup! No Big Baby though.

Groom's Cake

My lovely lady friend, @clearasmud, got married exactly a month ago. One of my wedding gifts was the groom's cake. And since she had a long engagement, this cake has been on my to-do list for awhile.

Her husband is a huge Steelers fan, so she requested a football helmet. This was my first helmet and it was pretty easily to make. The only thing that gave me trouble was the face mask. I made one out of fondant, but as I was putting it on the cake it cracked. I didn't have time to make another one, so I just used pipe cleaners. They were an excellent alternative.

Wizards of Waverly Castle

First of all, I've been such a slacker with updating my blog. I'm determined to catch up tonight!

A month ago, a co-worker ordered a Wizards of Waverly Place castle cake. I had never heard of this show before and I still don't really know much about it. The only Wizards elements she requested was that the points in the castle look like wizard hats and that this image be on top of the cake:

I've made a castle cake before so I just incorporated what she wanted and came up with this:
