Put On Your Dancing Shoes

When I think of disco, the words "elegant" and "fancy" don't really come to mind. I had to make it work for a recent cake though. The co-worker who ordered it sent me the invites to her 50th birthday party which were black with white filigree. She wanted it to match the invites and incorporate a disco theme, plus a high heel and dancing steps. Lots to put on a cake, but I think I pulled it off.

Cakes Like These...

I don't get many requests for music-related cakes. Bums me out! So I was super stoked to do this Foo Fighters logo cake.

Rock 'n' Roll

It's been awhile since I updated this! It's not because I haven't been making cakes. It's because I recently moved and packing/unpacking has sucked my will to live. lol And in the process of moving I lost my camera for a bit. I found it this week though! So although I've missed taking pics of some cakes, I'll be able to start back up now. :)

My lovely friend, @GenSpin ordered a birthday cake for her son last month. The theme for his party was rock 'n' roll, so I made a guitar cake similar to the one on the invitations.

Here's a pic Geni took. She needs to be my cake photographer!

Uh oh... Moonwalker's Back

I lovelovelove Michael Jackson. "Black Or White" is my jam! I was pretty stoked when a co-worker asked me to make a MJ cake for her best friend's birthday. It was a small cake so I fit the essentials on it: his sparkly glove, his hat from Moonwalker and a record.

The title for the blog is from an Aquabats song. Just FYI. :)

Alkaline Trio

A former co-worker hit me up on Facebook to order some cupcakes for her fiancé. He loves Alkaline Trio, so it was really easy to come up with a design... the band's logo!

And here are the cupcakes:

This Cake is a Wonderland

Erin, a photographer at work and very lovely lady, celebrated her birthday last week. She loves John Mayer and so I made her a cake with him wishing her a happy birthday.

It's an edible image so it's nothing fancy, but she loved it. You know what part of the cake she ate? His face. haha

Bake It... Bake It Good!

First of all, Devo is awesome. So when I got an order for a Devo Energy Dome cake, I was all over it!

This was one of the easiest cakes I've ever made. Icing it was a little tricky, since each tier wasn't two layers.

Here's a picture of the hat:

Here's the cake:

Yep, I totally listened to Devo's "Whip It" as I was typing this. I should have listened to it as I was making this cake. Good thing I have to make another Energy Dome cake for tomorrow!

Dude Cake

One of my friends, a frequent customer, ordered a Blink-182 themed birthday cake for her birthday. Actually, now that I think about it, three of my cakes this week are for this friend. Woah!

There were many possibilities when it came to this cake, but I narrowed it down to Blink's bunny logo or the smiley face logo. I decided to go with the smiley face, because I wanted to do more painting instead of piping.

Here's what the logo looks like:

Here's the cake:

Not too shabby!

A Little Something Refreshing

My first cake order through Twitter! The lovely @RokkSteadyND hit me up about making a No Doubt cake for her birthday. If you know me, you KNOW I LOVE No Doubt. So I'm always excited to make this kind of cake, especially if it's for someone who's also obsessed with the band.

While texting and coordinating the cake drop off, I found out that Blanca works two blocks from where I live! Small world! She also invited me to her birthday dinner at Acapulco and that's where I dropped of her cake. I was shy, but I had oodles of fun! =)

I've already made a cake with this design, but this time with rasta-colored borders. I like this one better than the previous No Doubt cake. Two things made this one of my favorite cakes... 1. It's a No Doubt cake (duh!) 2. Blanca was SO excited about it.
